New to the forum first post ill call myself a "refugee" from the steam forum. Hoping here will be much less toxic and constructive.
So i was wondering what is the official team size of the game, I hear 4 but its mostly by people who seem to hate what was shown and have been unwilling to give links and time stamps. A streamer i watch who went to a showing with a group said the build he played was 5. leaked images seemingly from these group showings also showed an image with 5. Article detailing basically only what happened at PAX said 4.
Is there any official answer from Larian themselves on this? Was there a moment i missed in the PAX stream? would love any and all information regarding this

Interesting, thanks for this. it does only state for multiplayer so i wonder if there is always one companion or multiplayer is limited in that way for some other reason. It just seems weird that leaks and people who got an early peak got an expirence with 5 team mates and everything else is showing 4. Inventory also seems designed with 4 slots in mind. Hope we can get some additional information regarding the discrepancy and why it may have happed.

Several of the leaked screenshots seem to show 4 player portraits, so we could assume that we could have a party of 4 at least.

I also saw the 5 members, if it ends up being 5 I suspect 5 MP in the end, even if they say 4 now, in feedback it will drive them to 5. We know it can be done from dos mods, correct?

There are two points of view here: Either David meant that the total number of Multiplayer people were yourself and 4 others, or They are allowing you to have a nonparty member in your group for an escort quest. Just a guess.

Yeah i gotta agree with people here, 4 party membrs just doesnt feel right.
Now heres why i think that is.
Anyone remember the Divinity spinoff? The XCOM one that got cancelled? Now they introduced more than four characters in that one, due to it beeing more about the TBT aspect.
Now what they did in that game was to remove the Divintiy style initiative order and go with an XCOM like Initiative order so "Team good guys" and "Team Red China" alternate rather than the party members having individual turns.
The same appears to be ture for BG3. To me this doesnt realy add up. The entire reasn to only have 4 characters was the limitaiton of turn times. Im gonna be honest, im gonna play this game in Multiplayer and id prefer to controll 3 charactrs opposed to just 2
ESPECIALY since this is DnD 5e and some player is gonna be stuck with the Fighter i,e one character who mostly does " i hit thing" and whose most interresting combat stuff is gonna be throwing his boots or kicking people around by the looks of it

If they create the game with 4 party members in mind thats all fine and dandy. But there has to be mod support for having larger parties. I prefer the larger party sizes myself and if I were to guess the reason why they limit to 4 members is that its alot easier to balance. Another effect you get is that in co-op mode you only have to wait for 3 players and not 5 til its your turn (we all know that certain player who would carefully consider every tiny action for 5 minutes before acting, only for your turn taking 10 seconds).

I still hope it is 5, So there can be one DM and 4 players for when they release DM mode and toolset.

modding a higher party limit doesnt do it for me. the entire game is balanced around the party size, unless they got some magical virtual DM tool that adjusts the encounters (i somehow doubt this)

Those are quicker runs for me, less management.

One of the developer interviews clearly said party size is 4.

Yup, yet another way in which this is a D:OS game and not a BG game.

To be honest, I never play BG1 or BG2 with a full group of 6. Most D&D 5e adventures assume you have 3-4 players. However, I get why some would be disappointed. Having 5 friends with you in multiplayer would definitely be cool.

Perhaps the party limit will be 4 with an invisible character in DM mode? In any case anywhere between 4 to 6 would be ok because just because if you had 6 you don't need to utilize 6. Some people will want to go through the game with their 1 character.
