Firstly, im a big fan of what larian studios has done for the rpg genre, and i love their games. That being said...the story of their first game was a tad weak but it was i could see it was necessary since you could be any type of character, so you had to be a bit vague to account for that. Building in the origins of the second game, they were able to create a more personal story. But only if you were interested in those origins... I was not. Everything had to be dark and edgy. Like a teenage goth with a singke fixation. So the stories were more or less the same. With baldurs gate 3 , we are already have a , "sparkely vampire", a fighter who will do anything to win, a monster hunter who sold his soul, a "dark" cleric, and mysterious wizard... Everything is completely focused on darkness and the occalt. Seeing as you already have a mindflayer tadpole in your eye...it seems a bit over the top. If thats all the dnd was about, it would fit. However, it is not. Its about diversity and being able to play your way. Sometimes a simple character is still interesting. Whats weong with a paladin, with no dark past, who faces a real challenge with the tadpole wispering in his ear. Or a simple barbarian, who thrives on the chaosand rages against the this shackle yo his freedom, whist coming to terms with needing help to get out of it?
Now i know some people may feel different. I am also aware that you cam still make other characters. But the game is less reactive by their own admission if you do. Im hoping that larian studios doesn't fumble this as a one trick pony. Im not so excited about being able to thow a boot at someones head, that id sacrifice story diversity to get it.
What are your all thoughts? Agree disagree? Different concerns?
