I get the narrative (and VO) convenience these origin characters offer, but I can say with complete certainty, I will never use one. I like my characters to be wholly mine, top to bottom (and gladly accept a silent protag as the trade-off, my teens/20s were full of silent protags, so no sweat for me). I expect the game itself to provide the reason for adventuring and whatever required elements are needed to thrust the protag into their arc.
These are cool for whomever wishes to use one, but I almost think Larian missed the point (almost, premade characters have always been a mainstay of D&D of any edition).
