I don't get it... what is the difference between generic protagonist in DOS 2 to generic protagonist in any other RPG (aside from DAO of course)

I will take a party full of origin characters when I play, but you do not lose anything if you create a custom main char.

The main difference between a custom char and an origin char are the personal quests of origin chars. If you make a custom char you can still hire them as companion to see their quest.

The main difference between D:OS2 and other RPG is that the personal quest of a char follows you over large parts of the game while in most games the personal quests are just a normal side quest. Since there are more origin chars than members in your party you will not see all personal quests in one playthrough anyway, no matter if you are an origin char or a custom one.
