The lack of a fog of war (or whatever it might called in this context) in DOS2, and in what was shown in the BG3 demo, is a little disappointing. I'm not talking about the map itself (which remains blacked out until it is traveled), but the ability to roam the camera around and see into unvisited areas. Is there a reason to let characters see into the next room (and beyond) without them actually having any way of seeing into it? Is there a technical reason, a strategic reason, etc? In this respect (here's one specific detail for you, all you "this-isn't-BG-it's-a-DOS-clone" people) I would like BG3 to be like the predecessors.

Happy for the fog of war to exist as long as that pointless right of light disappears. Make us carry a torch. DYNAMIC LIGHTING PLZ

I think it would be hard to implement fog of war in a full 3D game .
Many players would (rightfully) complain if the view distance is short like in some old games.

what could be done maybe:
- You cannot move the camera very far away from your char. You can click on the map to send characters far away but the camera does not scroll to this position and stays with the player.
- You cannot see whats inside a building or another room if the door is locked. When interacting with a door you can try to open it or try to make a perception check to hear whats inside.

Im up for fog of war if they implement it right, as in Rangers/archers/rogues should act as a scout then, as in they should have larger detection and all other stuff that involves in exploring when selecting them.
