The main difference between a custom char and an origin char are the personal quests of origin chars. If you make a custom char you can still hire them as companion to see their quest.

The main difference between D:OS2 and other RPG is that the personal quest of a char follows you over large parts of the game while in most games the personal quests are just a normal side quest. Since there are more origin chars than members in your party you will not see all personal quests in one playthrough anyway, no matter if you are an origin char or a custom one.

this. I finished DOS2 several times and this is the only difference between generating main to choosing origin and personally I prefer creating a main.
