Breaking news. You don't have to respec your character. In DOS II I have had to respec a lot, because I'm not master strategist or genius in any way. I try things and I try new things, and I only plan to replay DOS II once with my brother because co-op sounds fun and I can try a different character. I don't know how much customization there will be in BG III, but they have stated they plan to have set classes. So there will be more limitations meaning you will have fewer reasons to respec and more reasons to replay.
