Origins character should only be recruits... Not main character.....
Main character is what players wants to be. Is this Role Play or predefine story ?
Why would you think it better to decrease a player's choices?
Because I think main characters should have his own story, not the same as all the others.
Not talking about their backgrounds, talking about the story in which you are playing.
Playing BG with Minsc or Jaherai is not interresting. It would even be stupid if in a game they could be sons of Bhaal for you to play with.
BG is not a film you can just choose to change the hero, it's a story.
