Baldur's Gate 3's announcement is almost note for note what happened during the lead up to Doom 2016's release. The gameplay demos looked slow and plodding, the multiplayer beta was meh, Bethesda withheld review copies (and if Bethesda holds something back, you know it's bad) almost none of us in the Doom community expected it to be good.

Then it came out and it wasn't just good; it was goddamn fantastic. In less than a day, all the negativity surrounding Doom 2016 was replaced with glowing praise.

I predict that once Baldur's Gate 3 hits full release status, the forums will go from overwhelming negativity about how this isn't BG to glowing praise about it being a true successor to BG1 and 2.

At least I hope. I never played BG1 or 2 so I don't have that nostalgic baggage. I just want to play a fun fantasy RPG with memorable characters and great mechanics.

Side note: Why does the tadpole have to crawl in through the eye? Just... just why? Anything but the eye cry . I cringe any time I watch that scene.
