Hi, i'm a huge fan on Divinity original sin 2 and I got many hours on multiple plateforms but recently I can't open the game on steam. It's been only a week since my game won't start. It works on normal edition but the DE don't and the Larian crash report box shows up immadiatly.

I have already try many things from different forums and Raze' thread (clean boot, no error on event, reinstall visual 2017 and physx, deleting folders in My Documents...) but it still won't work :(

Please, I enjoy this game and I want to play it since a friend got the game in order to play with me.

Thanks Larian and sorry for bad english.

If you didn't already, try exiting out of the Steam client, and starting the game directly from the '..\SteamApps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\DefEd\bin\EoCApp.exe' program file, by right clicking and running as administrator.

Try verifying local files: in the Steam library, right click on the game and select Properties, switch to the Local Files tab and then click on the 'Verify Integrity of Game Files...' button.

Try creating a new Windows administrator user account, switch to that account and try starting the game from there, directly from the executable.

If that doesn't help, please email supportdos2@larian.com with a dxdiag report (WinKey-R, type in dxdiag and hit enter, then when it finishes loading click on the 'Save All Information...' button and save the report somewhere handy). Also check the '..\Divinity Original Sin 2\DefEd\bin' folder for the gold.log file, and if any 'CrashDump' files are being created, zip a few together to include.

Oh thanks you very much, the only thing I haven't try was new Windows administrator and it works ! Finally I will be the next Divine smile

So do I need to start the game only in the new account or I can do something about my main account ?

Thanks Larian and hope my situation can help some people

If applicable, disable Steam cloud support either globally (in the client click on the Steam menu and select Settings, and then Cloud) or just for this game (in the library right click Divinity: Original Sin 2 and select Properties, then switch to the Updates tab and check the Steam Cloud section).
Alternately, exit out of the Steam client and just start the game directly from the executable when required.

Next, try browsing to the '..\Documents\Larian Studios' folder and rename the 'Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition' subfolder, then extract the replacement folder from this download there, and see if that will let you start the game. Copying the D:OS 2 DE folder from your test user account's My Documents folder should work, as well.

The graphicSettings.lsx file is set to 1280x720 Windowed mode, Very Low quality preset and low audio quality, which you can change in the options (manually, or hit autodetect) if this gets the game to start.
If that helps, create a new profile, exit and copy a couple saves from the renamed folder into the newly created profile's ..\Savegames\Story folder. If that continues to let you start the game (and load the saves), move the rest of the saves over.
If the game still crashes, delete the replacement My Documents D:OS 2 DE folder and rename the original back again.

It is possible to run the game as a different user from your current account, if you don't want to switch accounts to play, either as a workaround or temporarily as you continue to troubleshoot why it doesn't work in your current account.
Exit the Steam client (if necessary), then hold Shift and right click the Steam shortcut and select 'Run as different user' (should work the same directly from the executable). You will then be prompted for a user name and password (you'll need to have set a password for the other account). After that, when you run the game it will save to the My Documents folder for the other account, and so should bypass the problem. You can set up a shortcut to do this automatically.

Exit Steam and restart to play other games, that also save to My Documents, so you don't split the saves between your current user account and the alternate one.
