Nice benchmarks, yeah because Intel quad cores CPUs start at 75$ with the i3-9100F and the i3-8100 quad cores released in 2017, cost 120$ and like you mention, most CPUs up to 2009/2010 had 4 cores as general requirement assumption for gaming so somebody have really to stretch a whole lot per say to not have at least a 4 cores CPU but a 6 cores mainstream platform CPU from Intel side tho is fairly new so I really think 4 cores as a minimum is the best. After all, what would be the use case where someone has a dual core, can't affford a better CPU but would be able to afford a good GPU ? Not so many IMO, maybe none lol

EDIT : Rather 6 cores as a minimum or so ? For the oldest i7s they could use their hyper threading features to get about 6 cores worth of performance at least and 4 cores users could just not have 100% of the physics stuff on by default where if someone have 6 cores or more or have hyper threading can turn on more of the physics greatness in the game.
