I think the conversation system is the biggest reason for this. We will see close ups of our character emoting and responding to dialogue. It will be more immersive if we have more say in what they look like to a greater degree imo.
You can never go wrong with more customization options, specially when it's a game that targets roleplay. I do hope that we get at least three bodies to choose from, but...
I really would have liked sliders, for both the faces and the body.
