I have a penchant for the Redemption Oath paladin, but one I like a lot is the Ancients Oath, that one seems what a ranger could have been if they put some work in it.

Redemption is pretty cool; in a recent campaign we had two paladins: I was playing devotion path and the other was Ancients - some very cool abilities (like Mistry Step which I think Vengeance also has) definitely ranger-like.

I have 6 Paladin builds for BG3. All 6 are different oaths, and all are multiclassed somewhat. None can be played fully until modding is available.

Anti Paladin: Fallen Aasimar, Soldier, Oathbreaker 7/ Hexblade Warlock 3

The Disciple: Half Elf, Hermit, Oath of Redemption 8/ Celestial Warlock 2

Knight Commander: Mountain Dwarf, Noble, Oath of the Crown 6/ Cavalier Fighter 4

Yeah, and speak with animals, can summon vines to restrain the enemies, etc... and the tenets of the ancients... It´s the closest build you can choose if you want to play a classic ranger of BG games or AD&D.

Regarding any class being OP...

I do no expect Larian to second guess WoTC in balancing classes. Why would they want to make themselves the arbiter of these disputes when they can just state that they implemented it as close to the 5e rules as possible... offloading the onus to WoTC where it should be.

Don’t know if folks have seen the RPS videos out yesterday & today but some bits at the end of the second video where Nick was talking about how they are trying to implement reactions for class abilities (I was thinking smite) and Protection fighting style smile
