Looks like they updated the Steam page with the system requirements: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1086940/Baldurs_Gate_3/MINIMUM: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system OS: Windows 10 64-bit Processor: Intel i5-4690 / AMD FX 4350 Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: Nvidia GTX 780 / AMD Radeon R9 280X DirectX: Version 11 Storage: 70 GB available space Additional Notes: The minimum requirements might decrease over the course of Early Access, as performance improves. RECOMMENDED: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system OS: Windows 10 64-bit Processor: Intel i7 4770k / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X Memory: 16 GB RAM Graphics: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB / AMD RX580 DirectX: Version 11 Storage: 70 GB available space Additional Notes: The recommended requirements might decrease over the course of Early Access, as performance improves.

I am kind of surprised by the recommended requirements. They are pretty low considering they said it would be much more demanding than DOS2. It's a good thing I guess.

Gonna try EA in Stadia rather than buying a new PC.

Recommended aren't sky-high, minimum is debatable. These aren't final, naturally. But that'd leave out a lot of entry level graphics chips still on the market, former mid-range ones, and a whole host of mobile ones. All in all, the specs are overall almost the same as for Flight Simulator 2020. Well, technically, BG3 is a 2021 game (maybe).

I still use Window 7 because I do not want Windows 10. Can anyone please tell me if that will be a problem? Thank you in advance!

If your hardware is good enough, Windows 7 will only be a problem if a new Windows 10 API is used. The only likely issue I can think of would be DX12, which isn't really available on Windows 7.
Edit: But, as it uses DX11, you are probably OK.

I would also like to know if windows 7 or even 8 would work... i will NOT install win 10 on a computer, it's crap.
Or even mac?
orrrr maybe a switch version.
Basically anything except windows 10.
Anything else is workable, but cmon guys.
Eton, most games marked for win 10 ONLY work on win 10. They're coded that way, and ignore different windows and simply don't launch... Hence why the age of empires remaster didnt sell well, i had to refund mine.

Thanks for replying! I am really hoping that BG3 will be ok for Windows 7, but I supposed I won't be playing Avowed. I get the feeling that Microsoft wants to force Windows 10 down the throats of Gamers. I can't be doing with all that random "updates" and "data collection" Next stop for me will be Linux and thank goodness there are loads of games out there that I still haven't got round to playing so Mr Gates can't get anywhere near my PC. But BG3 for me is a MUST HAVE! From what I have seen of it it will be very re-playable so that will be the next couple of years of my life right there. (I can only play evenings and weekends)

(I can only play evenings and weekends) Stadia may be a solution for you and currently is free for 1 month. Downside is that may prevent you from switching to PC in the future (or you have to buy a second copy of BG3 for PC). Since I plan to get a collector's edition in the future, I am going for Stadia now and upgrade my PC when the 1.0 version is released.

What's interesting is checking the most recent Steam survey's against the requirements. Looking through the video cards used, it seems that at least every 4th Steam user won't even meet the minimum requirements as to the video card demanded. Cards such as the 1050, its ti counterpart, the GTX 960 and even 750 ti still hold a significant market share. All of them are falling through. I reckon amognst both the Larian as well as the CRPG user base its even higher, as you didn't need that beefed up PCs to run those games, DOS included. And then there's all the users using even lesser ones, mobile versions and internal solutions included. And that's but on the GPU front. https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Software-Survey-Welcome-to-Steam

Technically, the game should work in Win 7 SP1, but we still need to do some testing and discussion before the official minimum requirements could be adjusted.

That's definitely unfortunate if Larian want manage to bring those lower. I bought Shipbreaker recently and can't play it as it runs like a slideshow. Still, optimisation isn't something done overnight and it is expected for an early built of the game in development to run poorly. I hope minimum requirements will get lower than what was posted, but if not I will just wait for later release.

One thing they didn't post, and that's always a bit ambiguous, is what resolution they are targeting. Could be 720p (which I doubt), could be Full-HD, WQHD, whatever. Sounds minor, but could make a significant difference for the GPUs targeted -- reckon it's full-HD; even though some developers have posted the minimum to be for 720p resolutions (which isn't a standard practice).

My kids got me a gaming laptop for Father's Day so I'm above recommended but the GTX 1060(Recommended) came out 4 years ago and GTX 780( Minimum) came out 7 years ago.
I would imagine there are lots of modern games you can't play if you are running a 7 year old graphics card.
Good news is you can skip early access and save up to upgrade your system when the full release comes out in a year or so. With optimization the requirements may go down and you'll be all set to play recommended for the official release.

That is true, but as it was a comparably high/er end one (release price above 600 Euros), it's still a more powerful card than some still being actually sold on the market, such as the 1050 / ti / (or RX 460/560 range), with the former being the 2nd and 3rd most popular in the Steam survey respectively. I've personally actually still got a GTX 1050 ti (only upgraded my main system a couple weeks ago to a 16 gigs Ryzen) and am going to wait for the new cards due this year / early next year. Until then I'm just going to try and see on lower details, perhaps even resolutions. It's not a twitch game, so the occasional dip in frames should be ok.

Yeah, hoping this changes. My 3.3 ghz / 880m laptop was pretty bleeding edge in 2015 (managed to pick it second hand) and I'd be disappointed if I couldn't use it play BG3.
(also want to see it on GOG -- just sayin' )

Does anybody know what frame rates are being targeted with both systems at which resolutions?
30 fps? 60fps? 720p? 4K?

I would assume they target full HD (1920x1080), like most games do. GTX1060 is a little weak for 4k.

Yes, true, if a company really uses a new Windows 10 API that is not back-ported, then a game would only work on Windows 10. DX12 is the only new Windows 10 API that I know of that actually gives developers genuinely useful features. To use any other new API at this point would be quite silly, as it cuts off a fairly large Win 7 audience. I have a Win 7 UEFI boot disk that is occasionally ( by which I mean once every few years ) necessary for games, but my day-to-day OS is Ubuntu Linux. A lot of the games I play have Linux ports anyway, and those that do not usually work ( or can be made to work ) using a facility called "Wine" which provides replacements for the necessary Windows APIs. Thanks for replying! I am really hoping that BG3 will be ok for Windows 7, but I supposed I won't be playing Avowed. I get the feeling that Microsoft wants to force Windows 10 down the throats of Gamers. (I can only play evenings and weekends) Many people have issues with Microsoft for a variety of reasons. My main dislike of Windows is their tendency to constantly change the OS to support their latest funky business goals rather than what their customers need. Their update system is also extremely lame. As I mention above, Linux can work well as a gaming platform, depending on what you need. It's easier if you use Steam for your games, since Valve are very active in supporting Linux gamers. There are also several other tools that can help if you do not use Steam, but some will require that you learn more about how Linux works than others.
