Completely wrong. You level up slowly on BG2. A mage(not considering expansions) goes from lv 1~8 on BG1 and from lv 7~15 on BG2, so you level up about the same amount of times HOWEVER, BG2 has way more content and is way longer.

According to HLTB, BG1 is about 44 hours long and BG2, 69 hours. Which means that you level slower than BG1 about 60% slower on average. The difference is that you start BG2 escaping a mad wizard dungeon and can even explore a little of plane of air on chapter 1. On BG1, you start by killing rats in candlekeep. Is fine to prefer low level games. Most 5e players prefer and most people who like high level plays pathfinder 1e at moment. However, arguing that you level up faster on BG2 and BG2 is made with "press A for awesome" instant gratification is completely wrong.
