To my understanding, the time stops for your group, the encounters and pnjs at a walking distance of you. The rest of the map keeps on doing its thing, like guards continue to do their rounds and so on. But I guess, when they enter your turn base bubble, they too get forced into turn based mode. So yeah, I guess you can just go do some other stuff and come back. Your game will be frozen where you left it.

But there seems to be a contradiction here in what you're saying. If time stops only in a bubble around me but keeps advancing everywhere else on the map, then time is not frozen. Things can change in the game world while I'm away from my computer.

I just don't understand why Larian has this absolute closed-mind to the idea of including the ability to just hit the space bar and pause the game during exploration. Yes I can see how it may be an issue for multiplayer, but they can easily have the feature be active only in single-player games. It is such a huge QoL feature even while also being probably the easiest and cheapest feature any game could have!
