The first time I played the game the merchants were selling holy water in the BF. Now they dont.. is it random? Will they eventually carry holy water if they werent when you first meet them?

With the patch installed, there is a small random chance of the BF merchants carrying holy water. If you keep checking whenever you enter the BF, you should eventually be able to buy some.


Check your PM (click 'My Home' in the top menu bar, then 'Received Private Messages').

How small is this chance? Is it less then 1%?? I am near the end of act 2. I must have been in and out of the BFs at least 50x maybe more while passing the first 2 acts and still have not seen a single holy water sold. do they not sell them until act 3 and 4?

I'm not sure what the chance is of getting holy water for sale; I was half done the game when that was added, and didn't visit the BF very frequently. IIRC, one person reported finding holy water 2 or 3 times in the first act BF, but that is not typical. Near the end of the game I quicksaved, then entered the BF repeatedly and quickloaded if the traders didn't have any holy water or good equipment to buy. It took an hour to get some, literally on my last attempt (after trying for awhile and finding some slightly better equipment, I set a deadline so I wouldn't waste too much time reloading).

What does holy water do exactly?

Holy water can be used to make permanent potions, if you have level 4 of the alchemy skill. You can get one as a quest reward in act 2, and with the patch installed may be able to buy some from the BF merchants.

FYI: i actually wanted to buy some of those too, so i went in act 1 into a dungeon, saved and then went to the battlefield-merchants. If no Holy Water, i reloaded. Then, after around 45 minutes merchant Olaf had a Holy Water AND all other merchants around him too, only Keith, the merchant far up in the north did not have one.
