One interesting idea to speed up the combat of the game.

BG 1 and two had Real-time turn-based combat,

I'm not asking to change the system to real-time I have an idea for it. How about we have the World turn system just as your " forced, Turn system where you take a turn. And the World takes it to turn 6 seconds. That would keep the turn-based tactical aspect you wanted to have in your game
and not wait for 40 goblins to attack 1 by 1. The goblins would take then all of the same time their turns. That way you could have epic Scale battles that do not take ages to wait for the game to resolve.

Having all of the enemies move at once would make it impossible to track all of them, so you would need to start your turn trying to find what they all did before you make your moves. This could take as much if not more time than the current system.

ofcourse the board would be totally new state, after turn in that system. but at least you don't need to wait for 2 minutes to play another turn and you can analyze the board and base your actions based on current board and think the potential next, turn.

Lesser extension of this would be all the monsters that act, before your next turn begins. same time then we would wait for 2 different type monsters to act differently but have 40 goblins act all at once.

I don't WANT the combat sped up. IMHO turn based works better for this. BG1 and 2 not being turn based was honestly their biggest FLAW

From the impression I've seen I'm thinking the problem isn't so much the speed of combat, but rather the lack of interesting options for a lot of characters. Obviously seeing every enemy go through their thing feels pointless when all you can do is attack. This is why nedern turn based rpgs have introduced much more interseting abilities to martial-type characters... That way you actually care about wahtcing the enemies take their turn, because it informs your furture decisions

The combat pace is fine.
