how the perception works in bg3?

in previous bg versions every level, rogue got some skill points to distribute between lockpicking, stealth, traps etc...

now here, lets say i have a rogue lvl1 with 17dex, and there is a secret door, is there a difference between level 1 and level 4 rogue to spot that secret? do i have better chances at spotting with higher level? what if i failed at level 1, can i came back at level 4 and succeed?

Your Wisdom ability, and your proficiency in Perception affects how high it is. There is no difference between a level 1 Rogue and a level 4 Rogue if you do not increase your Wisdom/gain proficiency in the Perception skill.

5e works differently.

Your Perception is your Wisdom Modifier plus your proficiency bonus - if you are proficient in that skill.

At character creation, you pick skills which you are proficient in, a selection based on your class. In addition you can pick a background which grants proficiency in two additional skills. A proficiency bonus is a special modifier which starts at +2 and scales with level up to +6. (Increases by 1 every fourth level after level 1.)

Rogues normally get Expertise at levels 1 and 6, which double the proficiency bonus they get in two of their skills (or one skill and Thieves Tools). That isn't in EA right now.

Guys here just told you already how it works perfectly.

Just want to add that in 5e there´s also "Investigation" You can also use that skill to investigate something deliberately and find traps, secret doors, and many stuff that was perception only in some of the previous editions. So it´s also good skill for your rogue (or any other character that likes to discover secrets and unveil mysteries) to have.

What is the diference between investigation and perception and which one should I take if I want to find traps and hidden stuff?

So far, for my time in game, perception seems to find traps, hidden things, etc. and investigation is more of what is this thing skill.

Yes, it seems like the only way to detect traps and hidden things is through passive perception. There doesn't seem to be a way to use active perception or active investigation to search.
