Guys here just told you already how it works perfectly.
Just want to add that in 5e there´s also "Investigation" You can also use that skill to investigate something deliberately and find traps, secret doors, and many stuff that was perception only in some of the previous editions. So it´s also good skill for your rogue (or any other character that likes to discover secrets and unveil mysteries) to have.
