Not really. I do not refer to them as edgelords because of that, only because of their backgrounds. Their backgrounds are all very extreme and flamboyant. You have the over the top vampire, the bitchy sharran, the bitchy alien, the one becoming a 'destroyer of world's, and Wyll seems the most balanced but I honesly haven't interacted with him much yet, it's on my to-do list.
All those things are fine, my only problem with it is that they are all leaning towards the darker shade of grey, with a notorious absense of a more simple, humble companion to even things out. They're all competing for the spotlight, so to speak.

I actually really like that dynamic. I’m so used to being The one and only main character in RPGs: the hero, the chosen one, the decider, the gravitational center that swoops up people into his orbit merely by walking into the room.

There is something I find refreshing about being a member of a team of A-type personalities who are are all competing for the spotlight. It’s got kind of an Avengers feel to it. I liked it in DOS2 and the novelty hasn’t sworn off in BG3.

That said, I’m looking forward to seeing the good companions when Larian releases them. While I’m sure they will be just as bombastic, I’m also certain that they will be more affable, too.
