First i want to say this is the first time i have ever bought into a early access game, and i have to say it will be my last. Now i don't think Larian Studios mislead me or gave me invalid information about what early access would be. What they did do, was give me a very poor experience with their game in its current state, both from a technical and story telling point. They story and plot right now seem so forced and shoehorned, your D 20 rolls mean nothing because it feels like most encounters and already predetermined. There doesn't feel like there is any nuance to any decision you make, your party will either agree or disagree. Or its combat, no combat and when you do get into a long protracted battle its just a big shoulder shrug at the end. At this time the story and the plot just feel like a yes/no black/white set of outcomes. D&D is supposed to be about they grey areas walking that line or morality. And put that alongside (at least for me) a very crashy alpha build it makes for a unpleasant experience. Last exploring around the opening area in this early access build, felt like i was running around Fort Joy, the whole experience felt so very familiar from the combat encounters to story beats, the biggest example, i have a thing in my head and need to get out, contrast that with, i have collar around my neck and need to get off fast to move on. Its just feels so unimaginative. So with all that said i regret wasting (loaning) my $80 to BG 3 and Larian i would have been better served just playing DOS 2 again, and pre-ordering CyberPunk.
So i will live and learn from this experience. But given how much coverage there will be of BG 3 i am sure by the time the retail release comes out next year, there most like won't be any surprises left to experience.
