I have seen this weird graphic as well when a foe dies. Its happened to me with un dead and humanoid foes. The last one to sort of changes in to this polygonal shape that twists in space ( think negative zone from Superman 2 crossed with a Dementor). It also keeps this form when you go loot the body.
