Was working on the Gith quest and when I ran into them and started dialog, the Persuasion roll came up and all it said I needed was like a 9. Got a 19 And the game said I succeeded but then they called me a liar and turned on me. Reloaded checkpoint and tried again, got a 15 and this time it worked and they left. Tried this a few times and any rolls less ended up in combat and half of the times it passed still ended up in Combat.

depends on whos in your party, when i did it i let lhaezal talk and the persuasion check was for me to tell her to lie, and then she had to succeed a deception check on her end to fool the knight. i cast guidance on myself and her before hand just to make it a bit easier all around
