As of 5e no more and, for individual spell preparation at least, thanks god they arent. Individual spell preparation was tedious and unnecessarily restrincting

It wasn't even a thing in 4e, so over a decade this hasn't been A Thing that's in D&D.

BG3 has some interesting choices in terms of 5e implementation, and 5e has some interesting choices but you can't complain about Larian implementing the exact mechanic from 5e and say "it's not D&D". D&D is whatever WotC decides to publish.
