I want to add my vote that I would LOVE to have a popup appear with my reaction options when they apply.

In fact, I wish I could have that in a tabletop game and never miss my reaction options.

As far as gameplay goes, this would add to the fun of the game without sacrificing strategic thinking. It would always be an "Aha, I'll get you with my <reaction>" moment, which would be fun.

Strategically, I want the option to save my reaction while the little guy swings at me, knowing that the big guy will be swinging at me later in the round. I won't mind at all seeing the popup in the first attack, hitting cancel/pass, then using my reaction on the second attack's popup.

I agree, many important tactical options are reactions in 5E. Since you only have the chance to use one reaction per round, the slowdown to combat seems much exaggerated by the detractors. Once your character blows their reaction there shouldn't be any further prompts for the round for that character. There may be a handful of situations where you are saving your reaction for a very specific situation, but the times where even that would greatly slow down combat would be far and few between.

If pop ups have to be a solution for this as everyone seems to suggest, please oh god please make it an option. I'd much rather have the current implementation than a pop up every time a reaction might be possible. Hell I'd rather disable reactions completely than deal with that. Even if it's only once or twice during combat, I'd prefer the current implementation.

As long as I will get to choose, I'm cool. I, personally, would prefer a simpler style combat. I certainly don't want to be dogged by popups and so on every time there is a reaction option, which I imagine at later levels will be a lot.

If that's what people want, I'm fine with that as long as it's an option only.

I think the best solution is to allow reactions and the like to be configured with conditions. So like for divine smite, you could have it use your highest level slot “on critical.” And then one of these configurations could be “on confirm.” So the game would ask you if you want to use a reaction or similar when the conditions are met.

A lot of reactions happening every combat? Not really unless the conditions apply.
You only have one per turn no matter your level, you only play with 4 character tops and in the phb are more or less 16 different feats and spells that get you reactions, most of them optional besides AoO, some are spells so they are limited to your number of spell slots per day; and some racial/mandatory subclass features so most of them you´ve never going to see them in your entire party.

And any reaction only applies once and only in response to an specific trigger: An enemy tries to get away, you are targeted by an attack, you receive damage, etc.

The thing is to have them available when needed. Well, it´s a free damage reduction/hit on the enemy/ free fall dampening/ etc that could turn the combat tides at some point.

Reminder that the system I am proposing would be optional.

You could choose whether or not you wanted to opt in.
