So this is a pretty significant design flaw.

I approached the goblin ambush at the looted out village with the windmill gnome.

I decided to sneak Astarion in a back away and position him on a rooftop behind two goblins. I then started the encounter with the rest of my party. I was planning on having Astarion sneak up and kill a goblin to start his participation in the combat. I dispatched one, but Astarion did not enter combat. The world was still frozen around him. So I killed another. And another. As long as I killed the goblin in one hit, Astarion would not become a participant in the combat, and could walk around the frozen adversaries.

Normally with fully optional exploits my motto is if you don’t like it, don’t use it, but this is different. I want to be able to enter combat with an initial sneak attack, especially when more classes and multi-classing is added for a planned all assassin party.

I suppose I could kill one enemy and just make myself get caught, but it does kill the excitement of playing a game when you have to compensate like that for not functioning as intended, as I’m sure that this is not.

Yeah, if you send a high sneak person off to do that, they can keep killing. Youll sometimes see the dice roll over their head and "stayed hidden" appear if they are looking. Otherwise, if youre at max distance and shooting through some LOS blocking terrain, youll just wipe out an encounter. Its a hard one to mix for rogues assassinating sentries and nothing happening and automatically entering combat. I feel their pain from a design standpoint because if you shoot someone and then ink cloud or slip into darkness before they have time to start searching...yeah youre hidden. But, you can just live on that edge and murder everyone. Larger / smarter patrol behavior from them and giving them a hefty bonus to perception after theyve been alerted might help

What is the problem you are solving? Does your proposed change solve the problem? Is your change feasible? What else will be affected by your change? Will your change impact revenue? Does your change align with the goals and strategies of the organizations (Larian, WotC)?

I didn’t see any dice rolls over Astarion’s head. I just killed all 5 goblins while they were locked frozen in combat. XD

If you hit somebody, and that enemy is already in combat, you should then be brought into the combat.

Even if the character makes a check and stays in stealth, that is fine. As long they need to take a turn instead of being outside the TB bubble.

Agreed. If you actively engage in any type of hostile action, you should be pulled into turn based combat.

Now, if you stay hidden, that is fine, but at least the other combatants can move/act/ect.
