R.I.P. Dreogan Strongale. As a young dwarf, he travelled the Sword Coast with his acrobat troupe family, but on the way to perform at a circus in Nashkel they were waylaid by bandits, his family were killed and he was badly wounded. He was found and healed by a cleric of Ilmater and found refuge in their temple in Baldur's Gate, but other than starting to learn how to give his acrobatic skills a more martial bent, hadn't made much of himself for the past hundred years. Nor did he manage to cover himself in glory after his abduction by mind flayers, being killed with a group of fellow abductees by a phase spider matriarch shortly afterwards and utterly failing to save the world.

(I probably will reload and finish off his story despite my honour mode fail, as I was having fun with the character and envisaged a sort of drunken master take on a strength-based monk with him.)

This is Anshar, my human Wild Magic sorcerer. Sure, they might look a bit odd for a human ^^.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com] [Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

The reason for Anshar’s strange appearance is they’re originally from a non-D&D RPG, set in a pseudo-Mesopotamian fantasy universe with cosmic horror elements, where all mankind was scattered around the cosmos by a catastrophic supernatural event. Now humans inhabit many worlds, some of them deeply influenced by a weird, terrible, and chaotic dimension, called the Void, which transforms everything it touches – even humans themselves. As a result, some humans are born with outlandish physical and psychological features that remind of the dwellers of the Void (annunaki, asuras, devas, djinn, and other mythological beings). In return, some of these Void-touched humans have mystical powers which allow them to change reality, but they can accidentally call the chaotic forces of the Void if they botch, creating all sorts of random, often dangerous collateral effects. That’s why I made Anshar a Wild Magic sorcerer laugh.

Originally, Anshar had pointed ears and three glowing eyes, but I couldn’t give them a third, vertical eye on their forehead. I also wasn't able to make their eyes glow, so I applied some makeup to give that impression. As for the pointy ears, I didn't want to make them a half-elf or tiefling, since Anshar is essentially just a weird-looking human - well, they are immortal and have three eyes, which gives them a better depth perception and a marginal bonus to Perception checks that only apply to sight, but I didn't think that justified making them anything but a human.

This is Myrna Brandybuck, halfling bard. No mods. She's a natural musician, but quite socially awkward and never plucked up the courage to ask to join an adventuring party until she was forced into one. She probably wondered why far more experienced people were looking to her for directions, but Shadowheart and Laezel hate each other so I guess they looked to a neutral figure with a massive charisma score.

She gradually became used to being a hero and grew out of her shell. She feels particularly protective of the other small people, so she was determined to save all of the gnomes. One of my favourite moments for this was in Grymforge:
the True Soul shoved one of the slaves into the magma, so Myrna immediately replied with "In your epitaph I'm going to call you a Twat-Soul!" Took me so many goes not to TPK in that fight, but damn I loved the smart-arse rage grin

Gameplay-wise, she's a lore bard (straight class) specialising in battlefield support, utility spells, exploration/stealth and of course social interactions. Lore bard = so many proficiencies.

This reminds me of my current tabletop character, who's a wild magic sorcerer just trying to learn his powers. I think about the first levelled spell he cast he exploded and TPK'd us all. The GM decided to undo that so I put it in his backstory as a nightmare.

From your description I'd have been tempted to go with a half-elf for the pointy ears and improved sight (OK, darkvision), but of course it's your game and if you like it that way, enjoy hehe

As a halfling fan, I would live to see your character, sadly the pics aren't showing.

Oh, that's odd, it might just be because I only set up that subdomain last night so your DNS or some other thing might not have updated, but I stuck them onto Google Drive too just in case:

Thanks for your insight! Yes, I considered making Anshar a half-elf too; the problem is half-elves gain a lot of racial traits (Advantage against Charmed and immunity to Sleep, plus all the subracial stuff) that my character shouldn’t have. Also, Anshar is a healer mystic, knowledgeable in anatomy and medicine, but I can’t pick the Medicine skill if I don’t make them a human. Besides, I think being referred to as a half-elf during the game, or having specific elven dialogue options, would feel weird.

The thing is, in the game Anshar originally comes from (Black Void, in case anyone is interested), all characters are human. However, you can buy a Background trait to be “Voidmarked” (touched by that odd, chaotic, and “Lovecraftian” dimension), which alters your appearance in purely cosmetic ways and gives you the option – not the obligation – to acquire a couple “Esoteric Attributes” (immortal, multiple eyes/heads, reincarnation, shapeshifter, and many, many more) that are unique to your character and mechanically impact the gameplay. In addition to that, being Voidmarked is the only way a character can learn and do magic, which is the case of Anshar and their Elemental and Void (chaos/fate/space) mastery.

All things considered, I think I’ll go with an oddly-coloured human, with a high-ish Wisdom to reflect their small bonus to visual Perception, and I’ll roleplay the “Voidmarked” thing by just being a Wild Magic sorcerer smile.

By the way, TPK'ing your party because of a Wild Magic backfire sounds fun and traumatising as all hell. No wonder your character has PTSD after that XD.

I made two ttrpg characters of mine - had to use mods to get their appearances a bit similar

First one is Vayu Stormgust, cheeky air genasi sword bard - he is my new honour mode run. The last one bugged out big time and I decided to just start new.

Second is Lavinia Foxglove, a gnome artificer. She is pretty happy go lucky and likes to experiement, sometimes with mixed results

Vayu looks awesome, one of the best of this thread IMO.

Aww, thank you. It was hard finding a face that looks similar. He is a favourite of mine.

I currently had to remake Helia my hommage at the scratched halfling werewolf bard origin, since a mod corrupted my save. So here she is again, a bit changed - and I love her so much

I tried something. While everyone is waiting for Veilguard, I'm obsessed with Tad Williams new Osten Ard series. SO I tried to make a Sitha character and of course, her guardian is a Sitha too.

So here are my attempt at Zida'ya

Me again - I accidentally made Kimiko from The Boys and now I decided to stick with her. Kimiko is my favourite character in the show and I watched The Boys yesterday, so there you have it. She is a resisting Durge - and I cackle to think, that Gortash might be Homelander in this scenario and I decided that Orin will be Firecracker.
I guess Karlach or Wyll will be her Frenchie.
