There is one huge step Baldurs gate 3 can make in the CRPG-genre, and that is to have some premade names that can be spoken in dialogue, they should specific to our choice of race and gender (if you so choose). For example instead of typing in our names, we choose some premade names that NPCs can say in dialogue, l. Whilst this would take away our ability to make fun and ridiculous names, but that would be a sacrifice I would be willing to make, but if you like this old tradition of CRPGs you should be able to have a choice to opt out of it. This would also be helpful if we are able to make a party exclusively of custom characters, for is there anything more immersion breaking than seeing the name in the subtitles but they do not say their name. Because I am tired of having my characters only be known by their title that is given in the game; In dragon age: Inquisition it is inquisitor, In the original Baldurs Gate, you are referred to as the hero of Baldurs Gate, You are called Fatebinder in Tyranny, The elder scrolls also only have title for our characters. Instead of referring to them by name.

I am however aware that this would be a big undertaking for Larian and that my suggestion is not perfect, but I feel like Baldurs Gate 3 should push the boundaries of CRPGs, like its predecessors did. Do you think this is a good idea? Or is it just a waste of time? Please leave a comment below and say your piece.

I do not think this is a good idea due to all of the lines of dialogue in the game already. I would be fine if they did it like other games, where they say your name in the subtitles, but when speaking they just end the sentence or skip your name and continue on with their sentence.

I think that this would probably be a waste of time compared to other things mentioned in the forums.

It would be a minor addition for me at best, but I would probably use it.

I approve of this idea because my character's name is Kwesh'i'iavxanqtvz. I'll be upset if it gets pronounced wrong.

(This is not a good use of resources for voice acting.)

As someone who literally forgets what his wife's parents names are after 13 years still, you can have a perfectly normal conversation while addressing someone without needing to use their name.

What is the problem you are solving? Does your proposed change solve the problem? Is your change feasible? What else will be affected by your change? Will your change impact revenue? Does your change align with the goals and strategies of the organizations (Larian, WotC)?

y, I didn't bother to learn half of my classmates names when I was in school and that didn't prevent the occasional smalltalk...

As much as a good idea as it could be, technically, at this stage, I do not think it is a good venture. If it were some earlier phase when you could implement this, code wise, without it being a huge undertaking, I would think yeah, perfect idea. Have the pre-generated names have spoken lines. Or better yet, build some tech into the system that would take typed names, maybe asked for some pronunciation, and used voice samples and AI to build pronunciation of the name you enter, to make it sound natural.
