That is actually smarter way to handle those.
Truth to be told both wildshape and polymorph in vanilla 5e both OP and utterly dull.
You get tons of extra hp, but you stuck in a useless body of beast. With absolutely no option to polymorph into something more useful.
Would be nice if Larian would try to homebrew polymorph and wildshape to be more similar to PF2e. Those both provide far great options for shifting, and well balanced.
Not OP. Yes wild shape gives a powerful tank options to druids at low levels but given invocations, channel divinity and other class features it's as you say, just tons of extra hp and the useless body of a beast.
But shapeshifting druids NEED that extra HP for staying power as they don't get other great defenses. Nevermind how it disables spellcasting and speech. A spell based druid is squishy and stays in humanoid to cast, a melee based druid needs wild shape to sucessfully off-tank.
Not familiar with PF2e ruleset, I'm sure it's great but shapeshifting into a rat with 1 hp and getting into a fire surface(pls nerf) taking 1d4 damage and suffering death seems a little bit harsh for this game. Wild shape should revert to base character hp once out of beast hp.
