So everyone knows from the official website for BG3 that Astarion is a bit special compared to our other companions. Unique, in fact, by being a vampire spawn. This is not a spoiler since it's well published that this is what he is. However, from a roleplaying perspective, our custom main character does not know. Why is it, then, I find so many hints dropped for Astarion's "hidden" condition throughout dialogue with him? He mentions Cazador after a visit from a special guest, well before I have caught onto his nocturnal extracurricular activities. Then, if you meet
, Astarion makes no comment about his aggression or odd remarks.
Based on the game I've seen so far, the discovery of Astarion's truth is a perception roll if he tries to target you. This is all speculation on my part, of course. If anyone has the real reason please do share. I would love to have these narrative incongruencies addressed in the full release, as it absolutely ruins the allure such a mystery provides. In other words, if Astarion's dialogue includes anything that may be revealing, have an option for us to follow up on it. Or give us other ways to discover his secret, other than catching him red-handed (pun intended).
