Replying to 1st as the spiders and the creatures in the well are too powerful and keep teleporting through the cellar webs.

You have to look around to the left and move some boxes opposite of the desk and bookcase. You'll see a lever once you have moved them:

I guess the well is a tough spot and we are meant to go back later. I was able to kill 2 of the ground creatures but not the spiders that keep moving around.

The phase spider didn't hit too often after its first sneak attack. While it does have a lot of hit points, you can burn the webs underneath it or push it off the edge to do pretty large damage. I beat it with a level 3 party that was mostly running on fumes for abilities. (No spells at all for Shadowheart)

More spoilers on the well:

If you go in a little further past the entrance, there's a mama phase spider who is crazy tough. If the first phase spiders give you pause, definitely come back later!

The spider matriarch boss fight is definitely tough..took me a couple of tries. But I will say that it is absolutely possible to beat it with a level 3 team. I won't give it away, but will tell you that you can heavily use your environment to your advantage for the fight.

Phase Spider boss should be approached as level 4 IMO unless you want to drive yourself mad with savescumming. You sure can do everything with level 3 party, but it's like shaving with a sharp rock. IMO, it's just part of how things should be done, after all scouting ahead and picking your fights only make sense.

That said - you can cheese it quite a bit. If you kill things from stealth in one shot, you won't be detected so you can take your wizard/warlock and blast the two accompanying spiders there with Scorching Ray with a good 90+ accuracy because they are downstairs and you have high ground advantage and all. These two phase spiders increase boss difficulty a ton.

Once you deal with those two - the boss is a cake, you can just CC it to death as Battlemaster, but even if you fail - it's still one mob vs 4 party, sure summons spiderlings, but these are not really a problem.

I took on the spider queen with levels 3. It's tough but manageable. You have to use stealth and place your chars next to the first phase spider. She must go down first round. Then the next one. Don't worry if the spider queen creates lots of small spiders. They are annoying but not very lethal. Make sure as well Lae'zel has lots of potions, especially speed and health, and you should be ok. As a side note, I had the sword of justice on Lae'zel and it helped a lot.

Someone on 4chan showed you can use illusions to lure it onto the web over the bottomless pit; then torch the web and bye-bye spider.
Until you find it's remains in the underdark. Splat!

On your first question, there are 3 crates nearby, move them and there is a switch/lever. Press that and the shelf slides open.
