Greetings everyone:
I'm a person that prefers lots of customization in character creation, because it allows me to create someone what I want to be that I not in the reality, and gives me that immersive feeling. An escape of reality, sort of. I usually takes at least half hour+ to create my character, I want him to look cool of course! Unfortunately, there are few elements that are missing right now, which I'm kind of sad about, allow me to list it out:
1. Cosmetics Slot - I want my character to looks cool, hot, sexy...whichever you prefer, but my character can only wears robe, classic leather armor, chain armor...… My character looks like a peasant than an adventurer. May be provide a cosmetic slot as a layer armor, allow the players to keep the stats they want while able to choose how they want their character to dress like.
2. Hide helmet options /or other Armor parts: When I first find a helmet for my cleric, I was like "Yes! Extra armor!" Then, when my character wears the Helmet, I was like "Aww...it looks disappointing, it doesn't match the armor. Sad...."
3. Body Mass: Why can't my character looks like the Druid Halsin! Look at his arms! That's what I wanted for my battle cleric! I always like my character to be as muscular is him, but sadly we don't have that options as well. I hope we can see option of adjusting body mass in the future in character creation. I always question why I never able to create buff caster? Why is my imagination always limited by the measurement created by the game designer? May be you can be the first designer that breaks the old rigid box. Think out of the box!

That's all the points I want to share for now. I understand Baldur's gate is still in early access stage, and your main concern is probably how to deal with bugs for now. But please, do take my advise when you have time. Give me some feedback as well!

1. Cosmetic slots are something I don't really agree with. Dying the armor different colors would be neat, but that's about it. Your character looks like a peasant because it's low level. It might as well actually be a peasant. Also, I don't know about you, but I doubt many peasants could afford a full suit of leather armor, let alone metal armor like plate, scalemail, or chainmail.
2. Possibly. There are plenty of other helmets around, but of course a leather helmet on top of a chainmail vest looks a bit mismatched. Just wait until you get the metal helmets. They fit better. Hiding helmets is something I like to do generally, though, but when you're in battle, you don't care if you look pretty; you want to be protected. Wear the ugly helmet and save your noggin.
3. More options for character customization is something I totally agree with. It would serve the game well to allow us to make fat, skinny, tall, short, muscular, and scrawny characters, rather than the single model for each race/sex combo.

Yes the lack body customisation and hide helmet option was a bummer. Dyes should definitely be a thing, using a yellow helmet with a purple armor just looks terrible.

Thank you fisher and Druid_NPC, I'm glad you guys are with me on the body mass customization! We should invite more people to this discussion and bring the attention to the developers.

I 100% agree. I would love to have even 2-3 options for the roughly human shaped races. Slim, average and "thicc" would be adequate.

1. I don't agree with layered armor, because wearing a hodge podge of armor and magic items you collected is just part of being an adventurer, but I really like the idea of dying armor to add some unique flair to your character.

2. I don't really want hiding armor either for the same reason in 1, although when I got that first leather hat there was some pretty bad clipping with my hair/beard which isn't great. So I can get behind an option for hiding helmets.

3. I agree 100% with this. In fact I would go a bit further and not only have different body types, but also sliders to fine tune the different body/face parts. Like making your nose bigger/smaller, moving eye/eyebrow position, or making your character tall/short on top of the different body types of scrawny/buff/fat/slim. I know that changing body size could mess with the armor models, and it would probably require a lot of work to get all the armor to work with all the body types they could make, but I personally think it would be worth it because D&D is all about making YOUR character.

In one of the 5e games I'm in currently, we have a Dragonborn who is super short and scrawny because of his negative str/con he got when rolling stats, and we have a joke where lots of npcs confuse him for a kobold. My character is an old human wizard who is also super jacked because I have a high str score. These things aren't particularly important mechanics wise, since as a wizard my str score serves no purpose for the most part, but it adds so much to the roleplay aspect, which is just as important as combat, if not more so, when it comes to D&D. Having my character look the way I want to roleplay would go a long way in creating a more immersive experience. And as a small side note, more face/hair options are needed as well.

I don't want to come off negative or anything, I know this is EA and more stuff is coming, and what they have so far is a good start.

Edit: I forgot to mention this, but also an option for wrinkles/scars would be nice

@mark I like that ideas of yours, that's what a true RPG should look like! Especially when the game ask me to create a person "what my character dream of", yet there's only 1 facial option that I like, which already apply on my character. So at the end, I made them look like siblings instead. But please, let my character looks as buff as Halsin! I want that option so bad. let's invite more people to join this discussion smile I'm happy at least most of us agreed on the body mass customization.
