So I know the first question will be why I didn't just go Ranger, saving that for release as it will likely be my main.

So as the title says looking for opinions on which sub class to go, Arcane Trickster seems the logical choice to me but if thief's bonus action applies well please let me know!

If you are talking about expertise (lv2 rogue - bonus action to use hide/dash/disengage), it's currently not really well implemented ; all characters have already those action as bonus ones (saving dash wich is only available to rogue).

Currently expertise is a bit meh and need slight balancing IMO.

As for you multiclassing, Starting rogue may be more beneficial since you got 4 proficiencies + 2 of them doubled (not implemented currently), and most of weapons peoficiencies available.

Going ranger afterwhile with multiclassing (starting after rogue lv 1 or 2 for example) should gives you most of weapons proficiencies + medium armor + one more skill, while still benefit from sneak attack, wich is not bad at all.

Better ask this after multiclassing completed (probably with final release, unless they introduce it for testing purposes on existing classes wich could be great :p).

Arcane Tricker sounds more useful. Having an extra bonus action doesn't seem that useful for someone at range. Make sure you select Mage Hand. I thought it was an automatic spell, and now Astarion doesn't have it.

Extra bonus action is extremely useful as you can use dash and hide at the same turn. This way I solo'd many encounters which would be deadly with a group. So Thief all the way.

Solo kill list: One stupid evil (displayed alignment) Githyanki warrior, a dark grove, a Zhentarim hideout full of "experienced" rogues, half a Goblin camp including two hobgoblins, two minotaurs, a bunch of underworld monsters and their wannabe sorcerous overlord

Having jump spell on Astarion was really a game changer for me, at least for complex encounters where mobility is the key. The gith girl has it by default, mage has teleport and I got 3 high mobility characters as a result with only Shadowheart having to climb those ladders. Assuming the trickster can get the invisibility spell later, it is an easy choice.
