I'll be the first to respond to this and then create another post emphasizing this. Is it possible that the D&D edition is going to change? After 90+ hours of playing I find that character leveling is well basic, wizards aren't any different than sorcerers, and there are more limitations on how many active spells available at one time.
Unlikely. There will be multiclassing though, which might make things more interesting.
I am curious how I will respond to 5e once I get the chance to played. Back in a day I found 2nd edition a perfect fit for party based RPG - some choice, but not overwhelming when managing multiple characters. My initial impression of 3rd ed. was very negative - I found amount of stuff quite overwhelming (though I think a big part of it was poor UI design).
In recent years, I became more and more fond of more complex builds. 3rd or Pathfinder still might be a bit too much, but just a little bit. PoEs hit a sweet-spot for me, I think. A decent amount of choice, but streamlined and generalized enough, as to not make a management of a party a pain.
