I do, personally, think that Larian could build in a better learning curve for the combat style for those new to D&D or turn-based. There seems to be a big ramp-up between the tutorial and encounters directly afterwards. Hopefully this will be done with different difficulty levels later on.

I picked up a lot of the tactics mentioned before when playing Divinity 2 (my first Turn-based RPG). While the combat in that game isn't completely the same, if you are struggling you might consider trying it out if you haven't already while waiting for early-access to continue adding more content.

(I will add that the enemies in BG3 definitely seem more tactical than in Divinity 2)

My No 1 advice would definitely be Misty step. And having some firewine or oil barrels at hand (they are a bit heavy though)

Use the magicians for ranged attacks, use magics like grease, acid pool, make combos like greasing the terrain and then fire it to add fire damage, when in closed spaces check for oil barrels to use at your advantage, when possible try to use narrow passages to force mobs into a bottleneck, use bless, rally, use jump and rush to put some distance from melee attackers.

Also for enemies you know you are going to attack choose carefully from where hit them, and be careful mobs from similar factions will gang together so before going against an npc control how many of its peers are around and then decide if you need a camp rest or to refill your supplies.
