Clicking the sneak attack icon doesn't guarantee a sneak attack unless the preconditions for it are satisfied. Not all of the conditions for sneak attack from 5e are represented in the game (yet?). It will become clear what works and what doesn't as you play. Just be patient, this is only EA, not everything works perfectly.
