I may have encountered this, when you go to click on save, does a message come up stating something like Saving In the Middle of a Conversation Has Not Been Implemented Yet In This Build? If so, exit out of the game and you should be able to resume play as usual
Sometimes you get this warning - but sometimes not, and that's a problem.
