As much as I like Gale, his two major detriments (the artifact chomping and necrosis cloud upon death) make me seriously reconsider giving him one of my already premium party slots. Since there's only three (hint-hint).
Whether or not Faerun is literally filled with artifacts or not is irrelevant to me. I (as a compulsive hoarder in games) don't like to part with objects that have special names and histories. In Skyrim, they go on display in my houses. Other games, they waste away in a storage chest. Never sold unless I'm desperate, because they're special and, I dunno, maybe I'll use them eventually? (I won't but that's besides the point.)
Asking me to throw them away on a character who's 50% likely to take me out should he fall in battle is a lot to ask. I already have to position Gale away from the rest of the party during combat. Don't make me sacrifice my preciouses to him as well.
