And it's just the saddest thing. I dunno if they've ever played DnD. Pretty sure a lot of people would knock out those mind controlled farmers in a normal game

been there hex and things that cause additional damage ie previously stated hex spell, fire damage, aoe, acid, etc will end up killing them. As it's only the damage your doing with base weapon that is taken into consideration. side note knocking out the mind controlled farmers, and Kagha and her horde is a pain in the arse.. Way to go hex turned my non kill play through into a druid massacre. oh well.

OP's right. From a role-playing perspective, it would be great to be able to take someone prisoner and hand them off to the authorities, for example exactly like what the OP says where you're dealing with someone who really doesn't deserve to be slaughtered like thieves or drunks mouthing off for instance.

in the underdark who are the authorities? In the druid grove who are the authorities? In the grove I'm pretty sure that they would attack you if you brought Netties unconscious form to them, or Kadhas, if you either to the tieflings your causing more strife, and get the same result if you would if you killed either Kadha, or Nettie. Same with goblins take out the goblin camp one how are you going to get goblins to their master who wouldn't want that. Then do you drag them back to the Druid Grove? Maybe balders gate?

just further following the prisoner theory, if it was possible.

I haven't gotten far enough into the story to really find an option for it yet but is there an option to not kill enemies and instead just knock them out after a fight? If not I think it should be added. I think it would lead into interesting dialogues or maybe different quest lines, such as a mad woman running up to you and because you knocked her out you realize she was being mind controlled by an evil wizard just nearby.

It's something small but I think it would add a bit more to my characters personally because I always try to be a "goody two-shoes" when I play D&D.

second row, second to last button. looks like a mace and person, it's just to the right of dash.

Turns your damage into nonlethal (watch out for spells like hex, or things doing additional damage) uses unarmed strikes or near enough damage. Best way to do it is get them within 10hp or so, then just have every melee them with this button pressed.

added because I'm an ass. Look at each button on display test them out see what they do, hover over them. Part of being in EA on any game is trying all the little things you spy with your opened eye. and though I am guilty of oops, went to forum to soon.

But this option is too buggy at the moment. I've knocked several NPCs out several times (to avoid killing "stupid nice guys") but the game is not at all designed for this mechanic, and when you find them later (for example by saving the village) they attack you because they are still hostile (and so the whole village attacks you lol).
The sadness of non gratitude x)

I think it would be best not to allow knocking out when it is not intended by the game (and thus avoid nonsense scenarios).
I had knocked out the healer druidess who turns into a spider. Just before the party she was quietly preparing her potions ... in giant spider (1 hp and hostile) ^^

Oh come on! You're just taking it to the extreme to put down the idea (unless I have misunderstood you, in which case apologies). No one said this should be an option in every single case. Just something that could be mixed into the game, wherever appropriate, to increase the scope of role-playing. And furthermore, it would be optional. How could that possibly be a problem for anyone?

I think he's trying to explain that an "optional" choice that seems easy at first glance, is actually not at all: you have to adapt this feature to the whole ecosystem of the game (a bunch of decision boards I guess) that creates by butterfly effect a lot of bugs and nonsense.
I prefer an absent or restricted feature (only certain characters/circumstances) rather than a false freedom of choice.

yes this, and no need to apologize. thick skinned and I say far worse to myself to get a giggle. Lack of sleep has made my brain into jello.
