This is more of rant about 5e Ranger spells.
I am really happy that Hail of Thorns in BG3 is not a concentration spell. I would almost never make use of it in 5e because it would interrupt something more important (Hunter's Mark, Spike Growth, Conjure Animals) for a one-time boost in damage.
The only times I would use it is to either open up a fight or end one.
I personally think not making it concentration is better, and I hope they go with the same choice for it's 3rd level counterpart - Lightning Arrow.
