Hi, the quality of the image (in particular text) on stadia right now is very poor. My tv is older, but the text is almost unreadable in some areas. This hasn't been due to low bandwidth, I have 150/150 but the image has been consistently poor since I started playing.

I tried to compare it to watching someone play BG3 on a stream, and it's noticeably better quality watching them in the stream.

For reference:

Me watching someone from YouTube play BG3 on my tv:

What is the maker and model of your tv?
Could you check if your tv is running at 30htz, 50htz or 60htz?
What is the resolution of your tv and what resolution you are running Stadia?
What device are you using to run Stadia?
Is that device connected direct to your tv or a home theater receiver?

That maybe could be a downscaling problem. But I am not sure yet.

Meanwhile you could try this:

If you are using the Chromecast, In your phone open the google app home. open your Chromecast there. Go to settings and which on the function "Use 50Hz HDMI mode" and check if gets better.

If you are plugging a windows computer to your TV, click with the right mouse button in your desktop and select
your graphic card settings. Intel, AMD, Nvidia, etc.

In the display settings try to change the refresh rate to 50htz or 60htz. Also sometimes there is an option to display your computer to a monitor or a tv. Try to play with this setting.

If you can not select 50htz or 60htz try to change your HDMI cable.

Hey LFay, it's a Sony Bravia https://www.sony.ca/en/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-lcd-tvs/kdl-55ex500

With a Chromecast ultra. I couldn't find a setting for refresh rate on the TV, but I did adjust my Chromecast settings as suggested.

I have stadia set to 1080p which is the highest option it provides.

Both YouTube and stadia are running off the same HDMI slot on the TV so it would seem weird to have it display find for YouTube but not for stadia, although admittedly I'm not expert on how that works.

I'll try stadia again tonight with some of your suggestions and see how it goes, thanks.

Cer

Edit - looks like I do have some sort of motionflow refresh rate tech i can play with later on the TV

I saw your tv model and maybe 50htz will not solve the problem for you. But it worth to try.

Also check if the channel your Chromecast ultra is plugged in is running 1080p 60/120htz. And NOT 1080i or 1080p 30htz. Most TVs will display that information when you switch channel or use the button info.

Does it only happens with BG3 or did you notice that in any other game? I never played BD3 in 1080p but I could check if happens here as well later. In 4k I don't have this problem.

Aha! I found the cause. I think.

I disabled the option for "Automatically turn on game mode" in Chromecast settings and suddenly the picture became about a hundred times better. Now I'm not sure why this did this, as if I reenable it and the other settings I can't make the picture bad again.

Maybe it was just a classic case or turn it off and on again.

Glad you found the problem. Actually this might be a problem with your tv and not the Chromecast. You can go to your tv picture settings and do it there.

What Chromecast was doing is turning the game mode on in your tv. This reduces latency drastically because it turns off all the TVs image processing settings.
This feature is always recommended to be on because it can intact the latency in 20 to 100ms depends on the tv model.
But if this is causing problems for you and you can't notice a drastically increase in latency. Keeps it off.

Just remember to turn it on when you change your tv.

Btw , if you have a windows computer this game feels amazing with m&k. De developers are saying controller is not very optimized yet and are recommending m&k for now.

Ya I'm aware, but I play with a controller to get away from a m&k haha. Besides, someone has to test it! :p

Thanks for the help
