If i would be a DM, i would allow only a singular patron for Githyanki warlock.
Reason obviously is a lore. GIthyanki loyal to singular entity - their lich queen. Well, unless you are githvyrik exile/traitor (which would be another unique background for giths).

I understand that many other ppl would be as much lore-suckers as i am. Still, adding Vlaakith as an unique warlock patron, available only to githyanki - would really support game immersion.

And if you would go for such immersion, i would also forbid Githaynki picking cleric class (again, unless player would pick githvyrik background). Vlaakith haven't achieved true godhood yet, and again, true githyanki wouldn't worship anyone else.

In general, this would be great, but only if more specific Warlock patrons and backgrounds would be implemented. For now, it would limit players to "unquestioning" githyanki - which would by far be the majority, but still - one may want to play a heretic.

Not that it wouldn't be cool to play a githyanki with Vlaakith as a patron, haha. (Could be the UA Undead patron, perhaps tweaked a tad.)

With Warlocks I've played and DM'd characters that have had a far more business-like relationship with their patron. It's not someone they worship or have undying loyalty too, it's someone they have a contract with for the exchange of specific goods and services. That can work for githyanki too, the same way as contracting a hireling to maintain your armour doesn't violate the loyalty to the lich queen.

To me a Warlock isn't really beholden to their patron. Heck the Old One might not even know you exist.

They make pacts, and deals to gain power, something I see a Githyanki would do to, if in a difficult situation. It's clear Githyanki are ambitious, and Warlock Patrons seem to pray on the ambitious.
