So in the game, you have the option let a Tadpole escape into the wild.

I really hope later when we can handle CR 13 mobs that if we let it escape, we'll get to encounter a Neothelid that is that tadpole.

Yeah, I might have accidentaly let It escape to see if this would happen... I'm not sure though, correct me If I'm wrong, but don't they need to stay in a brine pool, with a dead Elder brain, and eat other tadpoles until they grow strong enough to get out?
My lore is rusty, I really hope they can grow in the wild, it'd be an awesome addition to have a Neothelid fight later on

Yes, that technically true but these tadpoles are already weird as we are not Mindflayers by now, lore has it that our personality would die in like 48 hours and we be sprouting tentacles within a week?

Yeah, I really wouldn't mind if this is some lore they change, after all you allways want your DM to concede some rules or tweak some lore If It Will make for an amazing story
