They also get a skill of their choice, which makes them a lot more flexible. The free Jump spell at 3rd level (and Misty Step at 5th) are also nice.

Unless characters start getting multiple attacks (which doesn't happen in this build), you can take a Str 16, Int 16 githyanki and do good damage with both weapons and magic. There are some magic items that make this even better (such as the Sword of Justice). Your one weak area is hit points.
