I decide to fight the boss spider to see how it goes, even though I scouted it before and saw it had 100+ health. For its opening attack it crits Lea'zel for 40(!) damage. A few rounds my fighter gets one of those sweet sweet crits. It, of course, zooms in and makes it impossible for me to see what happens. So I check the log to see what kind of damage it applied...5 damage. 5! Is that even possible? Oh it must have resistances like the Imps did. Nope.

OK help me understand how critical hits work in BG3? I think in BG2 it doubled the damage roll. But I didn't roll a 2.5. So likely the critical system has changed since 2e. That's fine just please explain.

BTW: BG2 is in my top 3 games of all time, and I am loving what's being done with BG3 (surfaces in almost every fight is annoying though). We did end up beating the spider with barely a scratch after 2 party wipes.
