I think background is more for rp and not something told to you. For instance my Criminal Lolth Sworn Drow didn't grow up on the streets, he is a spy. My Sailor Rogue is a pirate, not a regular sailor. If anything, I would prefer to see the option for all the 5e backgrounds and also custom ones rather than a cutscene.
