According to RAW there is no such thing as too high, unless you were out of range of the spell, but that seems unlikely because Hunter's Mark has a range of 90 feet.
I believe they changed all spells, ranged weapons ect to a standard range of 60ft, but essentially its the same thing if the OP was out of range.
