After finally making it to the underdark in the EA I've gotta say, even with darkvision light is very wonky. One of the few things Larian has decided to replicate from tabletop 5e pretty faithfully is the light rules, which means fighting in dim light or darkness gives a hell of a lot of disadvantage to attacking. And seeing as I can't find any way to light carried torches in this game, and many supposedly 1 handed weapons like staves and spears are locked into being 2 handed in this game... please let us hook lanterns to our belts Larian! Make them expensive magic items we have to buy, or have them work for a limited amount of time based on fuel, either works! Pathfinder: Kingmaker handles lanterns great, and it should be a pretty easy addition.

It would be easier if they just allowed you to cast light on a char's full body, given all the liberties they took with a lot of 5e spells and mechanics but i guess they didn't really want you to play as a *Boring/Plain* Human lol.

Lanterns would be nice, as an aesthetic asset useful in dark places indeed. And there should be an easier way to light torches, I agree.

Other solution would be to just increase the brightness and viewing range for races that have darkvision.

Well they messed up then, because whenever it swaps over the Gale's turn while I'm fighting in a dark area it makes me wanna scrap my Drow and try a Human character even more lol. So many RPG's have you seeing perfectly fine in these dark, dank ruins when you shouldn't be able to see much at all, and playing as a Drow or any other character with darksight just kind of has that same feel. But then it swaps over to Gale, and suddenly the lights go out and it feels immersive and I freaking love it.

It's just working as intended, you shouldn't be able to see at all with races that don't have it. Pitch Black.

In any case there should be a solution that allows you to play a char without dark vision ... which is currently not possible in a bright room. That's why I'm playing a half elf now.
The monitor is primarily the interface to the player and should therefore also focus on the needs of the player.

Totally down with lanterns. The hooded lantern to reduce detection would be a nice add (and ghost lanterns of course...so many lanterns)

What is the problem you are solving? Does your proposed change solve the problem? Is your change feasible? What else will be affected by your change? Will your change impact revenue? Does your change align with the goals and strategies of the organizations (Larian, WotC)?

equip torch, have mage cast firebolt cantrip on ground (or throw a flame potion), dip torch in flames on ground...voila, burning torch

Dip is one of the standard actions you can do with your equipped weapon (works with acid, poison and other stuff on the ground as well).

Dipping in acid your metal weapon for extra dmg certainly makes sense. Can't wait for dark/light surfaces.
