The problem with an RPG is that most things in the 'Tutorial Zone' as we are in has to scale to your level. You should really tag some spoilers.
Larian wants us to have a 'Dangerous' Adventure off the gate with companions with larger than life backstories at level 1. To be honest I find the game more fun with a custom party of custom player made characters.
Most game companies want you to feel special hence you are always the "Dragonborn, Savior, Hero". Or in this case, guy with special thing that doesn't transform.
